Your safety is our top priority. Follow these guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Required for All Areas:
- Safety glasses with side shields
- Steel-toe safety shoes
- Hearing protection in designated areas
Additional PPE by Area:
- Welding: Welding helmet, gloves, apron
- Grinding: Face shield, leather gloves
- Painting: Respirator, suit, gloves
- Chemical Handling: Chemical gloves, apron, goggles
- Material Handling: Work gloves, back support
PPE Requirements
Employee responsibilities:
- Wear required PPE at all times
- Inspect PPE before each use
- Report damaged PPE immediately
- Replace worn or damaged PPE
- Store PPE properly when not in use
- Never modify PPE
Machine Guarding
Safety guards protect you:
- Never remove or bypass guards
- Replace guards before operating
- Report missing or damaged guards
- Keep hands clear of pinch points
- Wait for complete stop before reaching in
- Use push sticks and tools, not hands
Emergency Procedures
Fire:
- Pull nearest fire alarm
- Call 911 if needed
- Evacuate via nearest exit
- Proceed to assembly point
- Do not re-enter until cleared
Injury:
- Stop work immediately
- Call for first aid: Dial 5911
- Do not move injured person unless necessary
- Supervisor notifies safety manager
- Complete incident report
- Seek medical attention if needed
Chemical Spill:
- Evacuate immediate area
- Contain if safe to do so
- Call safety team: Dial 5555
- Refer to SDS for cleanup
- Use spill kit if trained
- Ventilate area
Emergency Equipment
Know locations of:
- Fire extinguishers (every 75 feet)
- First aid kits (each department)
- Eyewash stations (chemical areas)
- Emergency showers (chemical areas)
- AED units (main corridors)
- Emergency exits (multiple per area)
- Assembly points (parking lot markers)
Housekeeping
Maintain clean workspace:
- Clean spills immediately
- Keep aisles clear
- Store materials properly
- Dispose of waste in appropriate containers
- Coil air hoses when not in use
- Remove trip hazards
- Participate in 5S activities
Forklift Safety
For Pedestrians:
- Stay in designated walkways
- Make eye contact with operators
- Never walk under raised loads
- Be aware of blind spots
- Wear high-visibility vest if required
For Operators:
- Certification required
- Pre-shift inspection mandatory
- Sound horn at intersections
- Travel with forks low
- Never exceed speed limit (5 mph)
- No passengers allowed
Ergonomics
Prevent repetitive injuries:
- Use proper lifting technique
- Ask for help with heavy items
- Use mechanical assists when available
- Take micro-breaks to stretch
- Report discomfort early
- Adjust workstation height
- Rotate tasks if possible
Hazard Communication
Right to know:
- SDS available for all chemicals
- Labels must be legible
- Training before using new chemicals
- Understand hazard pictograms
- Follow handling precautions
- Know emergency procedures
Incident Reporting
Report all incidents:
- Injuries: Even minor cuts or bruises
- Near Misses: Could have caused injury
- Property Damage: Equipment or facility
- Unsafe Conditions: Hazards observed
Reporting process:
- Notify supervisor immediately
- Complete incident report form
- Provide witness names if any
- Seek medical attention if needed
- Participate in investigation
- Follow up as requested
Safety Meetings
Mandatory participation:
- Toolbox Talks: Weekly, 15 minutes
- Monthly Safety Training: Various topics
- Annual Refresher: All safety topics
- Job-Specific: When procedures change
Safety Suggestions
Help us improve:
- Submit ideas via safety suggestion box
- Discuss in safety meetings
- Contact safety committee members
- Rewards for implemented suggestions
- All suggestions reviewed
Discipline Policy
Safety violations:
- First Offense: Verbal warning, retraining
- Second Offense: Written warning
- Third Offense: Suspension
- Serious Violation: Immediate termination
- Applies to all employees equally
